Atapuerca is the site of the caves where the earliest human remains were discovered in the 90's. It is a huge excavation, UNESCO World Heritage site with ongoing excavation. At present time the remains go back 1.2 million years. I did not pass by the actual site and there is an excellent display in Burgos at the Museum of Human Evolution with actual artefacts so I carried on and will visit the museum on my rest day in Burgos.
Walked into outskirts of Burgos along the airport runways (not too inspiring) but then discovered a wonderful alternative route into the city along the river, a public park that was just lovely. All my Camino "friends" had jumped on a bus just before this ! But then I met David from Ireland who confirmed I was not lost and we walked in together. Very few peregrinos, just Spaniards enjoying a nice day in the park.
A brief stop for a cerveza with David then on to my hotel where I ran into Linda and Bill, the Americans I had been walking with about a week ago.
Linda had had a terrible time with her feet shortly after I left them before Logrono and had to taxi forward a couple of stops and go to urgent care for treatment! She was just getting back to normal and was planning to resume walking the next day. Despite some weariness from my just completed walk, I went with them to the Museo Evolucion Humana in the afternoon. Then tapas at about 7pm and crashed. Rest day tomorrow in Burgos.

Beginning of amazing "walk in the park" into Burgos
What happened to your friend's feet? How are your feet?
ReplyDeleteI liked the true spiritual wish! I think it should also include de someone giving you a foot massage!
