Took a picture of El Cid, above, on my way out of town. He is Burgos most famous son, born in 1040. I can't remember many details of his life, lots of intrigue, family problems, etc. The fact I most remember is he was re-buried at least 2 times, now rests in the cathedral with his wife and, I think, horse Babieca.
Managed to find my way out of town without much trouble. This tree-lined passage below merited a pic because it is in the movie "The Way". This is where the Roma man and his son walked them out of Burgos the day after the son had stolen the backpack. I keep trying to find spots where I think parts of the movie were shot. I know, it's Hollywood, but it is at least 50% of the inspiration for me to do this so let me be a fangirl :-)
Tiny Ermite de Nuestra Senora de Monasterio, leaving Rabe de las Calzadas and steps away from....The Meseta !!!
Fields, sky and road. So empty and quiet. Just wind and birdsong. Saw very few peregrinos either; virtually everyone I had started out with or met had either gone home by this or else "skipped" the Meseta and took the train to Leon. I loved this huge space
That is a full sized tree, just very far away. Gives you an idea of perspective
OK, fangirl again. Just happened to stop into this aubergue to call for a lift to my hotel 3 km out of town and here was this framed movie poster personalized and signed by Emilio Estavez and Martin Sheen.
This is a typical aubergue, again not where I stayed. Off to a cute hotel down the road and driven back to this point to continue the next day.
Very exciting to see something from the movie, and also the signed poster! I watched the movie again with my friend Allison.
ReplyDeleteI still think they portrayed the Canadian incorrectly, we are not that rude!
