Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado - May 13, 2015

This was one long and hot walk!! Started off in Rioja but ended in Castilla Y Leon, the largest autonomous region of Spain - apparently I will spend over 50% of my time travelling through it.
There were a few really nice villages. Temperatures were still in the 30's. Some Australians had mentioned that it was often like this at home but they had enough sense to stay inside when this hot...mad dogs and Englishmen..and peregrinos!
The last 5 km were among the most challenging in this entire walk. Along a multi-lane highway with a 30C and 25K headwind all the way and 18-wheelers (or the Spanish equivalent) roaring by constantly. Remains among my personal definitions of HELL !!!. Just sayin'; it ain't all fields and fuentes (fountains). Struggled into Belorado;  a very nice village with a central square where excellent beer was served - made up for the 5k of hell.

Like the symmetry of this distance remaining..have walked over 200k so far.
Now in Castilla y Leon
Sorry to keep shooting fields but the spaces are breath-taking

Not a great shot but spied this albino poppy. Warning - Poppy obsession gets worse

More or less halfway between rest stops. Will get to Burgos in 2 days. Also the official start of Hell - I will spare you.. keep going.. nothing to see here..REALLY!
Coming into Belorado, that stone looks Sphinx-like, don't you think?
Leading to great beer and people-watching
AAAHHH, feet up and beer, life is good.
Church of Santa Maria, about 1300's

Church of San Nicholas. a little newer than Santa Maria, ? 1400's.
Shot on my way out of town the next morning.
