Hornillos del Camino to Castrojeriz - May 18, 2015

Another cool sunny day, perfect for walking. Today's destination is Castrojeriz, a sleepy town with a 9th century castle ruins on the hilltop. Previously scene of much fighting (Romans, Visigoths, chucking out the Moors (the reconquista) you know, that kind of stuff), now just a stop on the pilgrim's way. No, I am not walking up to those ruins! Will admire from town with a beer.

There are lots of these rock- balancing projects along the way, some quite amazing.
Selfie stick again. It is actually a big pain in the a$$ to do this. It takes a lot of time to dig it out, set it up and shoot; and then pack it all away and put that pack back on..arrghh!!  Not an easy endeavor. Expect less pics of me. And the results are underwhelming to say the least :-(
Fields of poppies in the distance
Really looks like a field of blood. Probably ran with real blood at some time in its long past.
Just to remind what all that red is.
Warned you - poppy obsession got worse!
These are the ruins of the convent of San Anton, dating to 14th century.
Pigeons have a nice house. All the sculptures along the arch are so eroded with time. Makes me think about the artisans who created them so many centuries ago and the impermanence of all things human.
Castrojeriz in the distance
Here we are, with Convento de Santa Clara in the foreground. Did not stop in. Also all churches on way into Castrojeriz were closed as it is Monday. (most churches in Spain close on Mon.)
Follow the arrow and you're there (eventually....)
